Union Twp. Library Celebration

the Ribbon

The weather was perfect today for the festivities provided by the Friends of the Union Township library, celebrating the completion of the new Lucille E. Dearth Union Township Branch Library. A large crowd was on hand to watch the ceremonial ribbon cutting by branch manager Pat Kaniewski and witness the transfer of ownership of the library building from the Friends to the Union Township Government.

There were games for the children, music by the Cross Country Band, and dinner provided for everyone there. The highlight of the day was when the public was allowed to tour the new building to see all of the new shelves, furniture, and other fixtures that Branch District Library staff have been busy getting ready.

Dignitaries on hand to speak at the event were State Representative Ken Kurtz, State Senator Bruce Caswell, and US Representative Tim Walberg. We also heard from local auto racing author Dave Argabright.

The only sad news of the day is that, though the building is ready, the library is not yet open for business. We can't move our books and and open the new library to the public until we have received our occupancy permit from the Branch County Building Inspector. We are optimistic that this will happen soon, though.

As soon as we have a date set for the move, we'll let everybody know. Thanks to the Friends of the Union Township Library for a wonderful afternoon!
