This October, Branch District Library is participating in the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) annual TeenTober. Developed by the YALSA, this month-long event strives to raise awareness of the importance of year-round teen services and connect teens with services and materials provided by their local institutions that will help them develop new skills and fuel their passions.
The Coldwater Branch is celebrating TeenTober by offering a month-long reading challenge. Teens can pick up a TeenTober BINGO card and complete five of the activities listed. Activities range from reading a spooky poem to attending a library program. Once five activities in a row are completed, participants can submit their BINGO cards and receive a prize bag filled with fall goodies. Cards must be turned in by Tuesday, October 31.
This month, teens can also participate in the Nailed It/Failed It Cooking Challenge. This program encourages teens to check out a cookbook from the library (or Hoopla or Libby) and try a new recipe. Completed recipes must be photographed and posted to Instagram or Facebook anytime between October 22-28 to be entered in a prize drawing for some fun cookware. This challenge is open to teens ages 13-18. Entries must be posted by midnight of October 28, 2023.
“While we welcome young adults all year round, we are excited to shine a spotlight on teens this October,” said Teen Services Coordinator Nicky Ball. “TeenTober is the perfect time for young adults to stop in the library, attend a program, check out a new book, or simply enjoy the atmosphere in Teen Space at the Coldwater Branch.”
