INTERACT CLUB of Coldwater High School
In May of 1991, a new service oriented club sponsored by the Noon Rotary Club was established
at Coldwater High School. This club, known as the Interact Club, has a twofold purpose: 1) fo promote
the idea of service to the community, and 2) to open young people's minds to the world in which we live.

With those two goals in mind the following will give a partial list of activities that our Club members are
involved in.

In regards to community service we are participating in the State's Adopt-A-Highway Program,
cleaning up a section of 69. A group of our students have been involved in a tutoring program at

Edison School each Tuesday and Thursday, and other members have been involved with the English as a
Second Language Program offered through Franklin Adult

Education.

We organized this year's Christ-

mas in Coldwater food drive in the High School and doubled the amount of food received from the
previous year. Our organization has helped with the Big Brothers/Sisters BowlA-Thon and also helped
the local Hospice program with various activities. Later on this year we hope to donate money that we

are raising to various community organizations as well as establishing some type of scholarship program
for our members who are in need of the financial help.

As to the International component that we participate in, one significant thing the club
decided to do at the beginning of this school year was to invite each foreign exchange student to be a
part of our group. This has given these students activities to be involved in as well as new students to
meet and befriend.

As a way to better understand the world in which we live our club members will be

participating in a Model United Nations held at Hope College in March.

This has been a busy and exciting time for our club and we would like to thank the Rotary Club

for all their help and support in our first year of operation!

The incomparable Dick White is with us again this year! Unfortunately,
Dick has been advised to give his voice a rest this year, as he has a grueling season as guest baritone with The Vienna Boys’ Choir. Although the
self-imposed retirement is in effect for the remainder of the show, Dick

Carroll Barnes, Rotary President-for-life brings his extraordinary talents

less than 4 his age. Dick is also proud of his sister Vanah's success

to the spotlight again this year. Although shy and stand-offish by nature,
President Carroll takes this one opportunity per year to come out of the
shoebox and let his hair down a bit. Not necessarily known as a vocalist,
Carroll's talents are in the field of dance, and he has often been confused
for Fred Astaire, as he is quite the “hoofer’’. When he reign of terror ends
(if ever), President Carroll plans to settle down to a quiet life of retirement
under the direction of his lovely wife, Peg

The incomparable Santford Jolley will be celebrating his 120th year at
the Rotary Show Afterglow party and is delighted to return. A consumate

The venerable Duke Davidson returns to our stage for yet another (his

will retain his role as resident music critic, and has been kind enough to

lend his not inconsiderable advice and talents to other, less-seasoned
soloists. The show retains that special quality that having Dick involved
lends it. Dick lives in Coldwater with his wife, Delores (the Hawk) who is

artist, scenery painter, and set builder (as well as a pretty fair bartender)

our friend “Jol” has seen quite a few performers rise and fall, sometimes

in the same evening. His talents will be sorely missed, should he ever

become too old to work on this show. Take a good look tonight. He is also
lucky to have a wife like Pat to carry his walker!

93rd) Rotary Show, bringing his remarkable talents, (and a handfull of
cigars) to us once again. Known far and wide for his liberal (sorry, Duke)
interpretations of popular and semi-popular songs, ‘The Duke’’ (a dog's
name) will clearly be a musical gem, if he ever conquers his stage fright

We are delighted to once again showcase the considerable talents of Dr.

Our normally late Bob Kerr joins us for our show at about 8:15 p.m. A
bit earlier than in previous years, Bob looks at the back of the man in front
of him to read the song words pinned there! A special thanks to Bob for
allowing the Rotary Club to store various items in his third-floor vault, and
for allowing the pigeons of the community to do the same.

Bill Nettleman. Sporting two of this planet's largest feet, the good Doc
is nonetheless a star hoofer and ice making genius. Born the semi

legitimate son of sharecropper parents in Badclutch, AL, Bill worked his

way through the U of M by selling classified information to foreign
diplomats.

He was refused entry by Michigan State University, and has

vented his anger on spartans ever since.

Now retired, Bill lives on his

meager social security income with his wife, Sally, who takes in laundry
and distributes honey to supplement the couple's income

LARSEN,

returns for another Rotary Show.

Purportedly serving in his centennial show, Chuck graces our boards once
again. Chuck was recently voted the club’s Ernest Hemmingway look-alike,

and, although not the only Rotarian to act like one, is one of our few eligible hachelors. A Sagitarian, Chuck enjoys flying airplanes and balloons,
hunting, fishing, and lie-telling. He is a consumate expert in most of his

hobbies, and ladies, his home telephone is 1-800-555-5033, operators are
standing by to take your calls.

“Bolsterous Bob” Loose graces our show for this, his 75th year of participation. Although often admonished for his constant partying, obnoxious behavior, and public disorderliness, Bob maintains a remarkable normal appearance. Sporting a charming beard in honor of his friend Chuck
Woodward's personal centennial, Bob Loose was runner-up in the Ernest
Hemmingway look-alike poll. Bob is a recently retired plumbing and heating
contractor; retirement allows him more time for his hobbies, drinking and
debauchery. His lovely wife, Margaret has our sympathies.

Reymundo Cardenas, former pirate, white-slaver and kiddie star in old

burlesque joins our groups for the fourth year of performance, and has
the distinction of being the only one of our members to know all the words
to the songs, although he can’t pronounce them, Ray is nonetheless an
invaluable addition to the show's cast. Reigning expert on Latin-American
politics, Ray often regales the club with tales of life with his wife, Gonzie
and of his South American heritage.
John Selwin Plerson, veteran back-stage type guy, returns for his 98th
Rotary Show. Nobody quite knows what John (some call him “Sel”, “Sol”,
“Sal”, or “Old What’sisname”’) does in the show, but he does it exceedingly well! His exemplary

service has often been

singled out for special

recognition, but he has never quite gotten it, even now. No other member
has ever surpassed John in the highly technical work of keeping track of

Sel is the husband of Dr. Maura Pierson, whom he affectionately refers
to as “Dr. Maura Pierson, Dear’.
